Eye exam

A complete exam, without a rush

For adults who want to see well far and near, and to know how their eyes are. The doctor checks your vision and the health of your eyes and explains it in plain words.

What to bring

  • Your glasses and contact lenses

  • Your last prescription, if you have it

  • Your vision plan card and your medical insurance card

  • A list of your medicines and eye drops

What happens at the visit

It takes about 45 minutes. Results vary from one person to another, and the doctor tells you what they mean for you.

  1. 01

Step 1: Tell us how you see

The doctor asks how you see far and near, and what your day involves.

  2. 02

Step 2: We measure your vision

With your help, we find the lenses that give you the clearest view.

  3. 03

Step 3: We check your eyes

We look at the front and back of the eye, and the eye pressure.

  4. 04

    Step 4: We explain

The doctor tells you what was found and what comes next.

  5. 05

Step 5: Your prescription and your glasses

If you need glasses, the optician helps you choose. The prescription is yours.

How it is billed

One part of a visit can go to your vision plan and another to your medical insurance.

  • A routine exam

    Billed to your vision plan.

  • An eye problem

    Billed to your medical insurance.

  • If you pay yourself

We tell you the cost before we start.

Questions about the exam

How often should I have an exam?

It depends on your age, your health and your family history. The doctor tells you at your visit.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Sometimes. If it is needed, the doctor explains first and tells you how to plan your day.

Can I see fine and still need an exam?

Yes. Some eye problems don't show at first, and an exam can find them.
